Autodesk 10% Staff Cuts Result in the Loss of a Presenter for March Meeting

I had lined up someone from Autodesk to present at LRUG in March 2016, but it appears he will no longer be working for them as a result of the Autodesk 10% reduction in staff announced last week.

Thank you to the LRUG members who have stepped up to the plate to present at the first Session in the 16th March Meeting

So we need to find another 5 to 6 people to do a Pecha Kucha Style 10 minutes session including discussion on "What Annoys Me About Revit" for a second session at a future meeting.

We also need as many members to be active members and request presentations and others to then offer to present them if they have knowledge to share. Now the web site is easier to maintain ALL offers to present, with a short summary of content will be placed on the web site and the members at the meeting will prioritise them.

If we ever get to the point where we have more offers to present than can be arranged in the scheduled meetings for a year, we can always arrange additional meetings to take place.

What Annoys Me About Revit

Sign Up to Present in a Pecha Kucha Style 10 minutes session including discussion "What Annoys Me About Revit"

We did a similar session 6 years ago, its time for another, so I'm looking for 6 or more LRUG Members to volunteer to present their gripes about what annoys them about Revit, discuss how they work around the problem and who knows someone in the audience may have a better work around. If we can get more than 6 members we can take up a whole evening venting our anger or perhaps have another session later in the year.

Here are the presentations that were done at the second LRUG meeting in the 19th May 2010

What Annoys Me About Revit - Various Speakers
Download the Presentation slides as an Adobe file

Download LRUG PowerPoint Templates if you are going to create a presentation.
The PowerPoint presentations from the 16th March meeting will be synced with audio recordings of the presentations than these will be uploaded here and sent to Autodesk for their consumption and hopefully addition to the improvement program.

I have my first volunteer in the shape of Carl Collins who's is taking on Global Parameters as his moan. Please email me with the subject matter you would like to rant about.

Welcome to the New LRUG Website

The old website died on the 27th January as part of the process of Scott White and Hookins passing the domain name over to me. I would like to thank my old company for supporting LRUG for the last six years and in particular Nigel Coulton for his help and assistance with maintaining the old web site and what turned out to be the arduous process of transferring the LRUG domains from them to me. It's now mine and paid up or the next nine years!

Web Site Currently Under Construction

I'm in the process of building the back history of meetings. I have been offered some space on a server by one of the LRUG members, which will mean that the documents, slide presentations, podcasts from the meetings that I have from the last six years and 33 meetings will be uploaded to this web site.

The re population of this material It isn't going to happen over night, it will be a gradual process and I will fit time in where I can to make it happen.

33rd LRUG Meeting

Jose Fandos CEO of Andekan LLC and BIM Application Specialist with Buro Happold presented the first in a series of presentations on content creation followed by a presentation on Kinship, a cloud-based Revit content management tool that allows everyone working on projects to find the best content from anywhere across the organisation, almost instantly and right from within Revit.

Invites were sent to 331 members who have asked to be placed on the invite list 18 people were removed from that list due to their email address bouncing. Remember if you move company let me know, my balls are made of flesh not crystal.

I must once again thank Michael Bartyzel for supplying the Beer and Pizza and the venue for the meeting. If any members would like to pay for the Beer and Pizza at future meetings please contact Michael to arrange and that company will get a mention and Thank You on future postings.

Bad News

The plan was to record Audio and Jose was going to capture the video from his laptop and I was to create a video for uploading here by combining the two. Unfortunately the human or the hardware, or perhaps the software, who knows had a problem and there is no video of the screen to play with !!!.

Good News

Jose is going to let me have some guidance notes he has produced on which his presentation was based, and as soon as I receive it and have a home for this material I will add a link here.

Feedback from members was that they enjoyed the presentation and Jose has kindly to agreed to undertake more presentations on content/ family creation.

32nd LRUG Meeting

The aspiration for this evenings event was to present How Revit is used in the Landscape Profession. It was arranged by Carl Collins to be presented by a mix of people from Landscape Institute, Landscape Architects, Contractors and academics (BIM Academy) and would cover the whole workflow, from design to operations.

Unfortunately one by one the presenters backed out until we were left with one, Tim Calnan from CS Design Software Ltd from the original 5-6 who had committed to present.

Tim presented CSArtisanRV and showed the National Plant Specification database connecting into Revit to give real plant data and demonstrate growth over time within the Revit model.

Alan Wooldridge jumped in at the last minute to present a light civil engineering slope stability landscaping scheme dating back to 2011 that he undertook when working for Scott White and Hookins.

Video of the presentations and slides to be added shortly
