LRUG Meeting Wednesday 27th September 2023

FURTHER UPDATE - OK seems like all emails may have possibly gone into span folders, eventbrite aren't really interested is solving the problem. Michael and I have come to the conclusion that with a 100 capacity that we just try and let as many people know that it's taking place and that if the venue gets to a 100 people that no more will be let in.

If you can think of another way of issuing tickets for events in the future please email me at alan@cadalot.co.uk

Get to the venue which is Buro Happold office at 17 Newman Street between 5 - 6pm as you will need to register at the desk.

UPDATE - Invites were sent (according to eventbrite on the 20th and 21st just after 8pm on each day. No one appears to have received them but according to eventbrite they went. However their own analytical software can not find them at the moment.

Its been like herding cats just to manage to get to someone to help me look into this and also getting them to understand that their software is very buggy and not performing like it should.

Being Autodesk customers we are obviously used to this. (evil grin) I will keep you updated. In the mean time can anyone suggest another application other than eventbrite we could use in the future?

Two presentations on the evening of the 27th September

Emma Hooper

 IFC – HELP!!!

Emma Hooper will provide a mini IFC masterclass in which she will address the following:

  • What is IFC?
  • Why do we need IFC?
  • Viewing Revit from the perspective of data
  • The IFC export and import process within Revit

Stephen Hamil

Specification and model integration

Dr Stephen Hamil and Chris Vickers will present on the latest developments from NBS that allow designers to better link their specifications and models. Demonstrations will be provided on how to use information from NBS project specifications within Revit for drawing annotation and scheduling purposes. Recent releases from NBS have expanded the information that can be synchronised. The presentation will also look at Uniclass and improved IFC export of specification information following work by NBS as part of the Government & Industry Interoperability Group (GIIG).

First Presentation:

Speaker: Andrew Dobson - HBIM for Historic Buildings: Refurbishment of Big Ben for UK Parliament

This session will be a presentation about Purcell's development and use of building information modelling (BIM) and historic building information management (HBIM) and how this use has transformed Purcell's approach to documenting and designing conservation, repair, and creative adaptation of historic buildings. It will include a case study of Purcell's use of Revit software and BIM for the refurbishment of Big Ben-the world's most famous clock tower and the centrepiece of the UK parliament. The presenter has been the lead architect on this project since 2015, and construction finished in the Summer of 2022.

Second Presentation:

Speaker: Ash Curzon – Clash with Confidence

Revizto is an integrated collaboration platform designed to track project issues / activities and run clash detection in one centralised 3D environment.  With so much pressure on project teams to deliver projects more efficiently, you're often pushed into formats or platforms that you're not familiar or comfortable in.  Ash will take you through how the flexibility of Revizto will give you the ability to clash with confidence, no matter your experience level.
