LRUG Meeting 29th October 2025

It has been a while since our last meeting and I hope you will be pleased to hear that we have two excellent presentations coming up next week.

The sponsor of our next event is Ideate software and the first presentation will be from Nick Johns:

Ideate Revit Software – Automate out of Hours

How BIM Leads from many leading Architectural and Engineering organisations in the UK and globally are focusing on automating their manual, repetitive time-consuming Revit workflow tasks and scheduling them out of business hours”

We will also share some real-life case studies.

Presenter - Nick Johns:

Nick is passionate about helping architecture, engineering, construction, and building-owner companies maximise the value of their Autodesk Revit software with Ideate Software solutions.

With a strong background in the AEC industry, Nick has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing businesses today. He leverages his expertise to guide customers towards efficient workflows, improved data management, and significant time and cost savings.

Prior to joining Ideate Software, Nick held leadership roles at prominent companies like Excitech, Staples, and Xerox Business Services, where he honed his sales and business development skills.

Outside of work, Nick is an avid runner, gym enthusiast, football coach, and enjoys exploring new music, wines, and travel destinations.

Based in Bristol, UK, Nick is dedicated to helping clients achieve their goals and succeed in the competitive AEC market

Our second presentation:

Revit Materials, Managed

Materials in Revit are essential for Architects and Engineers and others in AEC - they're used in 3D visualisation, drawing production, environmental analysis and more. Yet, they can also be a pain to create and manage.

Most offices put significant effort into crafting good-looking materials. But unlike other content types, materials are locked within models and family files, meaning that work is not fully leveraged. As a BIM Manager, you may be unsure how to build and distribute a material library for your office. Architects struggle to reuse good materials from past projects without bringing clutter along with them.

In this session, we’ll take a whistle-stop tour of materials in Revit, highlighting some of their lesser-known features buried in the Revit interface. Then you’ll get a preview of Kinship’s upcoming update and how it can help your office better organise and make the most of your Revit materials.

Presenter – Matt Olsen

Matt is a Product Manager at Kinship, joining in 2025 after 11 years as an Associate and BIM Lead at Allies and Morrison Architects in London. Since joining he’s been working on Kinship's new materials release, bringing close knowledge of how materials in Revit are used in Architectural project delivery.

I look forward to seeing you at LRUG

LRUG Meeting Wednesday, 19th February 2025

The venue is our Buro Happold London office:
Buro Happold,
The Featherstone Building,
66 City Rd,

These are the details of the presentations:

Martin Wilding – KPF

Managing tech stacks in the age of AI

Synopsis:

The AI era is progressing full steam ahead, but how do you adapt your business to respond to the current pace of change? We’ve rapidly moved away from a traditional desktop software stack, but how can firms keep track of the constantly evolving software market, budget for tools you may not have heard of at the start of the year, and still stay ahead of your peers?

Chuck Driesler – Speckle

Bio:

Chuck graduated in 2019 with a B.Arch from Pratt Institute. Since then, his career has been almost exclusively dedicated to the problem of automation in the AEC industry. After some time at companies like WeWork, Pollination Tools, and Hypar, he has found a home (and a great venue to continue the project) in London and in Speckle.

Dangerously Generic Automation

Synopsis:

We keep repeating: "Speckle is your data hub!" With Automate, we offer a way to deploy all of your processes as code that runs against your data. But if you can do anything anywhere with everything, where do you start? Together, we'll take a look at how various teams are answering that question. From "micro" tools for early-stage design automation to grandiose visions that span entire project lifecycles, we'll explore how real teams are solving the real problems they face. And we'll save a little time for the industry's future, which will help us to imagine.

The event is in person; you need to reserve your ticket on Eventbrite, or you can join online through the MS Teams link below:
